Description
The Comet 5019.0672.00 is the specific water seal (packing) replacement kit for the RW Series pumps equipped with 20mm plungers. These are high-performance triplex pumps often used in professional-grade pressure washers and industrial cleaning systems.
This kit contains all the soft components necessary to rebuild the high-pressure and low-pressure seal stacks for all three (3) cylinders.
Compatibility
This 20mm kit is the OEM standard for specific models within the RW family:
-
RW Series: RW 3030, RW 4030, RW 5030, RW 5535.
-
Note: The RW series is also available in 15mm, 18mm, and 22mm sizes. Since the 20mm and 22mm pumps often look identical from the outside, measure your ceramic plunger diameter with a caliper to ensure this is the correct kit.
Kit Contents
This 15-piece kit (5 components per cylinder) is designed to restore a watertight seal:
| Quantity | Component | Function |
| 3 | High-Pressure Packings | The primary 20mm V-seal that holds the system pressure. |
| 3 | Low-Pressure Seals | The lip seal that prevents leaks during the intake stroke. |
| 3 | Intermediate Rings | Plastic/brass guides that align the high and low-pressure seals. |
| 3 | O-Rings | Exterior seals for the brass seal retainers. |
| 3 | Support/Back-up Rings | Prevents the main seals from deforming under high-pressure spikes. |
When to Replace (Symptoms)
-
Water Leaking Between Head and Case: A steady drip from the “weep” area indicates the low-pressure seals have failed.
-
Pulsation/Thumping: If one cylinder is leaking, the pump will lose its smooth rhythm, causing the hose to vibrate.
-
Milky Oil: If water gets past the low-pressure seals, it will bypass the oil seals and contaminate the crankcase oil.
-
PSI Drop: The pump runs but cannot achieve its rated pressure even with the unloader turned up.
Installation Pro-Tips
The “Bore” Inspection: On the RW series, the internal manifold bores must be perfectly clean. Use a soft brass brush or white Scotch-Brite to remove any calcium or mineral deposits. If the bore is pitted, the new O-rings in this kit won’t be able to create a perfect seal against the brass wall.
-
Check the Ceramic: Inspect your 20mm plungers. If they have vertical scratches or “cracked” spiderweb patterns, they will act like sandpaper and destroy your new Comet seals in minutes. Replace the plungers if they aren’t glass-smooth.
-
Seal Orientation: The “V” (the open cup side) of the high-pressure packing must face the water (the manifold).
-
Lubrication: Use a silicone-based grease on all rubber components. Never use petroleum-based grease (like motor grease), as it can cause the NBR material to swell and stick.
-
Star Pattern Torque: When bolting the manifold back onto the crankcase, tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern to ensure even pressure across all three cylinders.
