Description
This is a reducing nipple (or hex nipple), a very common “bridge” fitting used to connect two different sizes of female threaded components. In the context of the pumps we’ve discussed, this is usually the piece that adapts a smaller pump port to a larger hose assembly or vice versa.
Part Breakdown
-
3/8″ MPT (Male Pipe Thread): One end of the fitting. This typically screws into the female ports of smaller pumps like the Everflo EF1000 or the Shurflo 8000 Series.
-
1/2″ MPT (Male Pipe Thread): The other end. This is the “standard” size for larger agricultural spray components, including high-flow pump ports (EF5500/7000) and large spray gun inlets.
-
Adapter/Nipple: The center usually features a hexagonal nut shape, allowing you to use a wrench to tighten it securely into the ports.
Common Use Cases
-
Sizing Up: You have a small pump with 3/8″ ports but want to use 1/2″ high-flow plumbing or the “Wingnut” swivel fitting we just discussed.
-
Sizing Down: You have a 1/2″ pump port but need to connect a specialized 3/8″ accessory or gauge.
-
Manifold Construction: Building a bypass or return line where different sized valves and hoses meet.
